Most mornings I swing by Taco Haven to pick up breakfast on my way to work. This morning I drove up on a bizarre accident outside the restaurant. The Saturn struck this parked jeep where I usually park. The impact spun the jeep around and it almost crashed through a restaurant window. No major injuries. Crazy scene though. Glad I was running late today.

Attorney General Greg Abbott sues the Texas Highway Patrol Museum in San Antonio

Texas Highway Patrol Museum

I had always been curious about this museum in King William and we wrote a story about it in October. Turns out, the museum is actually part of a telemarketing organization that is not affiliated with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The museum’s telemarketers work in call centers all over Texas. They raised nearly $12 million from 2004 to 2009. But for every dollar raised, less than a penny was actually spent on DPS troopers and their families.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s office announced yesterday that it filed a lawsuit against the museum and its related organizations. The lawsuit claims that money from donors was spent on things like cigars, liquor, expensive cars, vacations and “exorbitant” vet bills for an “office cat.”

The lawsuit seeks to liquidate the museum’s assets and dissolve the organizations.
